Pickem Formats

All pool formats can be run with or without spreads

Key Picks - Each player designates a certain number of their picks as "key picks". If their pick wins the game (or at least covers the spread) then they get additional bonus points. The number of key picks that each player must choose and the number of bonus points they receive are set by you, the pool manager.
Best Bets - Each player picks only the games that they consider "Best Bets". You may have all 34 Bowl games on your picksheet, but then tell your players that they only have to choose their top 15 Best Bets. The number of Best Bets is set by you, the pool manager.
Confidence Ranks - Players must rank their picks in the order of confidence (the higher the rank, the higher the player's confidence in that pick). If they pick right, they get a number of points equal to the confidence rank they assigned to that particular game. The default ranks are 34 (highest) down to 1 (lowest), but we can accomodate a custom ranking scheme if you want to use your own.
Standard Pickem with custom points - Simply pick the winner straight up or against the spread. The pool manager can weight the games by assigning a point value for each one of the games on your picksheet. For example, you could make the BCS Championship game worth 3 points, all other BCS Bowl games 2 points, and the rest of the bowl games 1 point each.

Once you have decided on which style of pickem to use, you have many other settings to choose from in case you want to customize your pool even further (tiebreakers, point spreads, pick deadlines, automated emails, etc.). If you don't want to think too much about it, don't worry... all of our pickem pool types come with default settings that reflect the most popular way that pools have been run based on our ten years of experience working with thousands of pool managers.

College Bowl Pools involve a single pick sheet that covers all three weeks of the Bowl Season. You, as pool manager, can select exactly which of the 34 Bowl Games you want to include on the picksheet.

No matter how many games you choose to include, we recommend you go with one of the fancier styles of pickem pools to make it more interesting. If you are set on using the standard pickem format, then consider spicing it up with a custom points scheme as we did in the example above.

Share pools are very well suited for College Bowl pools and NFL Playoff pools because of the relatively small number of games. And in fact, you can combine NFL Playoff games and NCAA Bowl games in the same Share Pool.

Here's how it works:

You set everyone up with an equal number of shares at the beginning. Players pick sides and/or totals against the spread just like you would at a sportsbook. Risk as many shares as you like or don't pick at all. The winner is the person with the most shares at the end.

What makes this pool exciting for the short NCAA Bowl season is that every player has a chance to recover from a bad start, depending on how "risky" he or she wants to be. As your pool nears the BCS Championship game, even pool members with a sizeable lead will have to manage their wagers carefully, as people at the bottom end of the standings will start risking it all to catch up. As a result, everyone stays very involved right until the end.

For an interesting twist, you can run your share pool like a mutual fund where the share price fluctuates as people win and lose their picks. In this format, pool members can cash in or buy more shares at the going share price.
