Xander Schauffele Xander Schauffele
RANK 3 | OWGR 7.76
Schauffele fired a four-under 67 on Sunday at the RBC Heritage to finish nine-under and tied for 18th.
Schauffele birdied four of the first five holes during his final round at Harbour Town, where he ultimately ranked sixth among the field in SG: Around-the-Green and T17 in GIR percentage. He's now placed T18 or better in three consecutive starts dating back to the Valspar Championship, gaining 18.6 cumulative strokes from tee to green during this recent stretch.
Schauffele blew up in the final round with a round of nine-over 81 to finish in 72nd place at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Schauffele was fortunate to make the cut on the number, but absolutely did not take advantage of it at all going 14-over-par on the weekend to finish last of all those to make the cut. Schauffele just hasn't been able to practice as much as he would like nursing this ribs injury, and it has reared its ugly head when he gets on golf courses like Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass in difficult conditions. Short game and putting is one thing, but Schauffele being 71st in SG: Off-the-Tee and 56th in SG: Approach is very surprising. He's got to be in scramble mode now trying to figure out his swing with The Masters rapidly approaching. He is in the field for the Valspar Championship next week where he will hope to put in a better showing.
Schauffele (ribs) is scheduled to return in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Adam Schupak of Golfweek.com reports.
For the entirety of February, there was much speculation about when Schauffele would return from his rib injury. After initially being hopeful to return in the Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, he sat said tourney out and focused on the upcoming Arnold Palmer Invitational. Schauffele will look to get well-adjusted in what is expected to be a tune-up tournament for him before April's Masters tourney.
