Zalatoris has withdrawn from THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, PGA Tour Communications reports.
No reason was given, but you just hope it's not related to the back, which has given Zalatoris issues for the last couple years. The Dallas native will unfortunately have to miss his hometown event. He last played a couple weeks ago at the RBC Heritage. Zalatoris will be hoping to return for the signature event next week at the Truist Championship. James Hahn will take his spot in the field at the Byron Nelson this week.
Zalatoris fired a three-under 69 on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational to finish even-par and tied for 22nd.
Zalatoris' final round at Bay Hill was highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 16th hole, where he stuck his 174-yard approach shot to just three feet. His ball striking was impressive throughout the week as he ultimately ranked top-6 among the field in each of SG: Off-the-Tee, SG: Approach and GIR percentage, but Zalatoris lost 6.1 strokes putting and he converted only one of five sand-save opportunities. He'll look to make short-game improvements at the upcoming PLAYERS Championship.
