Scheffler posted a seven-under 63 on Sunday at the Texas Children's Houston Open to finish in a share of second place.
Scheffler held the 36-hole lead after tying the course record with a second round 62 but was five back heading into the final round. He got hot on the back-nine with five birdies in a seven-hole stretch but was unable to birdie either of the final two holes and came up one short of champion Min Woo Lee. Scheffler gained shots in every strokes gained category for the tournament and led the field in scrambling. Scheffler has posted a pair of top-5s over his last four starts.
Scheffler finished in a tie for 20th place at THE PLAYERS Championship after shooting a one-over 73 in the final round.
Scheffler became the first player to ever win THE PLAYERS Championship in back-to-back years last season, and was hoping to continue his reign on TPC Sawgrass and log his first win of 2025. It just was not to be for the No. 1 ranked player who once again struggled to convert on the greens ranking 45th in SG: Putting and 57th in putts per GIR. Scheffler has now finished T9-T25-T3-T11-T20 in his first five starts of the year. Those numbers certainly aren't bad, but definitely not up to the standard he set a year ago. Scheffler will make one more start at the Houston Open before he goes for his third win in four years at The Masters next month.
