Akshay Bhatia Akshay Bhatia
RANK 27 | OWGR 2.80
Bhatia carded a two-day total of even-par at the Valero Texas Open to miss the cut by two strokes.
Bhatia served as the defending champion at TPC San Antonio, but he struggled struggled to get much going with only six birdies across 36 holes to miss the weekend. He lost over four strokes around the green and hit less than half of the fairways over the two rounds. Bhatia will look to bounce back at the Masters Tournament, where he finished T35 in his Augusta National debut in 2024.
Bhatia (undisclosed) is listed in the field for this week's Valero Texas Open.
Bhatia withdrew prior to the Valspar Championship after a third-place finish at THE PLAYERS Championship, but he'll return to tournament action this week to defend his 2024 Valero Texas Open title at TPC San Antonio. The 23-year-old ranks ninth on Tour in SG: Putting this season, and he just gained 8.1 strokes from tee to green during his most recent start at TPC Sawgrass.
Bhatia has withdrawn from the Valspar Championship, according to PGA Tour Communications.
It is unclear why Bhatia withdrew from the Valspar Championship. Excluding the Arnold Palmer Invitational, he had been on a solid running, finishing top-10 in each of his last three tournaments.
Bhatia closed with a round of two-under 70 to finish in a share of third place at THE PLAYERS Championship.
Bhatia was in the mix all week at the PGA Tour's flagship event, showing that he is a true world class player. Bhatia opened with 67-66 to take the lead into the weekend. He struggled in much tougher conditions in round three with a 75, but got right back in it by starting the final round with birdies on three of the first four holes. Unfortunately, Bhatia was only to add one more birdie after that run to go along with a pair of bogeys to close the round. He would miss out on the playoff by just two strokes. Bhatia still has to be pleased with his performance this week gaining strokes across the board, including ranking top-15 in SG: Approach and SG: Putting. He will hope to carry the momentum into the Valspar Championship and pick up career win No. 3 on the PGA Tour.
