Griffin and Andrew Novak won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans by one stroke after shooting a one-under 71 in the final round.
This strong duo took command of the tournament after a 11-under 61 in best ball on Saturday. Sunday proved to be much more of a challenge in alternate shot, however, but both players made some big pars on the back-nine before Griffin rolled in a lengthy putt for birdie on the par-3 17th, which turned out to be the difference. For both Griffin and Novak it was PGA Tour victory No. 1 and could be a big confidence booster to both players going forward. These two players have been close on a number of occasions over the past couple years and it seemed fitting that they broke through the barrier together. Griffin is still slated to tee it up at the Byron Nelson next week, but there's a chance that changes following this win that now locked him into the remaining signature events and the PGA Championship.
Griffin has withdrawn from this week's Corales Puntacana Championship, Rob Bolton of PGATour.com reports.
Griffin did not qualify for the signature event at the RBC Heritage and will elect to skip this alternate field event in Punta Cana. Griffin has had a solid season that has included three top-10 finishes. His next chance to tee it up will be at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
