Matsuyama fired a final round six-under 66 at The Masters Tournament to finish in a share of 21st place.
Matsuyama's closing round tied for the low round of the day which was highlighted by four front-nine birdies, with his only dropped shot coming on the 72nd hole. He was led by his iron play as he hit 81 percent of greens in regulation for the tournament. The result breaks a stretch of back-to-back missed cuts and is Matsuyama's fourth top-25 across his last six events although he only has one top-10 for the year.
Matsuyama missed the cut at the Valero Texas Open by three strokes following rounds of 73-72.
This is the second straight missed cut for Matsuyama after he failed to make the weekend at THE PLAYERS Championship a few weeks ago. The reason Matsuyama missed the cut at TPC San Antonio was due to the putter where he lost nearly 3.5 strokes in two rounds. That is now his fourth time in the last five starts in which he has lost strokes on the green. That came after a strong run at the tail end of last season and early this season on the greens. Matsuyama will try to find something at The Masters where he has made 10 straight cuts with eight top-20s in that stretch. Of course he won the green jacket back in 2021.
Matsuyama closed with a three-under 69 on Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational to finish even-par and tied for 22nd.
Matsuyama ranked T4 among the field in GIR while also converting four of five scrambling opportunities during Sunday's final round at Bay Hill, where he ultimately finished third in SG: Around-the-Green and T4 in scrambling. However, he's uncharacteristically lost strokes on approach in three of four starts dating to the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Nonetheless, Matsuyama will peg it again this week at THE PLAYERS Championship where he placed T6-5 the past two years.
